Monthly Meeting List
April 21, 2025
Stephen Henry is an artist and art educator. He was born in North Texas, and after serving in the US Army, he graduated from Midwestern State University with a BFA. He is now a veteran of 26 years in the classroom, teaching both youth and adults alike.
Stephen continues to help many people realize and nurture their artistic endeavors and refine their own creations. However, his personal journey in the creative world has continued to progress. He has participated in dozens of gallery exhibitions across the United States, including solo shows. Stephen has been recognized with numerous accolades, including several “Best of Show” awards. Most of the latter awards—over 40, in fact—have come from competing in his favorite venue: plein air painting.
At the next Brenham Fine Arts League meeting, Stephen will demonstrate impasto painting, Impasto is a popular painting technique usually employed with oil and acrylic paint. Artists use thick brushstrokes to imitate texture or create three-dimensional, almost sculptural effects in their works. Impasto became widely used during the European Renaissance by masters like Rubens and Vermeer.
